Alterations in Nova

ashley, on May 7, 2019 at 9:26 AM Posted in Virginia Planning 2 10

Hi everyone,

Im looking for suggestions on alterations in Northern Virginia. Im located in Tysons/Falls Church area, but Im willing to travel 45 minutes - hour for someone who is reasonably priced! I bought my dress at DB, but would rather support local if I can.

Thank you for any help!

Hey Ashley!! How exciting that you got your dress! What style is it?

Are there any local dry cleaners or tailors that offer alteration services? They will often advertise this outside their store. If not, you could search for some online reviews, this will tell you if they work on wedding dress alterations. If there are any bridal stores in your area, they may also offer alteration services even though you didn’t buy your dress from them.

Hi! I work in Tysons and live near Manassas (about 35 minutes if you go on a weekend with no 66 traffic). Tangs in Manassas is the best and SO reasonably priced. She completely restyled my dress and didn't charge me an arm and leg to do so. I've posted pictures of my redone dress you should be able to see the photos on my profile.

Thank you! Mind you that was just her pinning it. I go back tomorrow to see the finished product. I also forgot to mention she sells shape wear as well and you can try on whatever you may need with your dress. Like, I needed a corset bra for the new shape of my dress. She was able to pick out the perfect one and she's sewing it into the gown.

    Following!

I heard there's a lady named Estee who's a reasonable price but I've not contacted her yet.

As an update, I went to Tangs yesterday for my first fitting and was extremely happy with the shop!! Reasonably priced and listened to me and all the funky changes I wanted to my dress. I go back in July for my second fitting, Ill keep everyone updated.

Ugh. I am beginning to think I should just take my gown to Tangs. I had originally planned on getting a custom gown made and put a deposit down but then found one I liked on clearance for about 5% of the cost of a custom gown. The seamstress has my deposit $ and will put it toward alterations but her quote for alterations seems a bit high too. Should I try to get my gown and just see about a quote from Tangs?

Glad I found this discussion. I got an awesome deal on my dress last Summer but need it altered for my September wedding. I'll check out Tang and hope your dress turned out to be everything you envisioned.
