Alteration advice/suggestions please

Mrs. G to be, on April 8, 2022 at 2:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
Hi ladies! I am getting married on the beach in Hawaii in June and I am running out of time. I have purchased 2 dresses and am at a point where I need to stop buying and figure out how I can make what I have work and love it. I like this dress that I bought but I feel like it’s not appropriate for the beach in June. I would like to hear your thoughts on how it would look if I have my seamstress do a few things:

1) add a leg slit
2) if I add a leg slit, do I need to shorten the train?

3) add off the shoulder sleeves like the ones below using lace that will be removed from the hem

4) possibly remove some inner layers so it’s not so hot to wear.

I would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you!

I think the dress is gorgeous and appropriate for the beach as is, but a slit can add some sexiness to it. I don't think you need to shorten the train if you add a slit. I would skip the sleeves.

I think the dress is lovely and would be fine on the beach. It might cost a lot to do all the alterations you want to. What does the other dress look like? Are you planning on wearing that one at all? Smiley smile

    Hi Fiona,

My other dress is this an older style by David Tutera. It was a sample that was tried on at a bridal store. It’s a little big on me. I would want to change the straps to fall off the shoulders like how I’m wearing them in the pic below. I’ll also post the a pic of me in the Maggie Kirstie dress.

As for alterations, my seamstress and dry cleaner is a friend of the family and they refuse to accept any payment for this work so I will have to find a way to gift them appropriately. I will only wear one so I'll have to re-sell the unused one somewhere. Which dress do you like best?

I think I like the David Tutera for Hawaii!!! It’s beautiful and has a fun, exotic, Hawaiian beach vibe to it. The Maggie Soterro one is also beautiful but it has more of a boho, forest, demure, muted vibe.

    Hi Bird
The venue is on the beach but it is also surrounded by mountains and woods. It’s the ranch where Jurassic Park was filmed.

It's great you can get free alterations and work done to your dress but I still don't think it's needed to either dress Smiley smile That being said I think I like dress number 2 or the bottom dress in the pictures above - there's just something about it that draws me in to it Smiley smile Just had another look to make sure but definitely the bottom dress I think Smiley smile
