Alexandrite rings! ✨💍✨

Mayene, on June 24, 2021 at 12:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

Wanted to share my alternate engagament ring, which is a 1.5 carat synthetic alexandrite ring with moissanite accent stones on rose gold.

I didn't know anything about alexandrite before this year. And it's wild how it only photographs purple/red; it truly is a ring to be enjoyed in person (is a deep deep teal in person sometimes). I love it so much!

Does anyone else have an alexandrite ring? Please share! 😍

    Thank you, Melle and Lynnie!

Alexandrite is basically known as "emerald by day, ruby by night" because of the color change, it's so fun to watch the colors, really wish I could capture the teals in the picture.
I have an alexandrite accent stones in my bridal ring set, but wanted an alt engagement ring with it as the focus because it was so nice. 😍

Such a beautiful ring. Alexandrite is a stunning stone, but I understand it's quite brittle, so you do have to be careful with it, if you're wearing your ring day-to-day. Our jeweller was showing us a custom ring she'd made with alexandrite and it was amazing how it changed colour. She also told us you can't ever put one in a sonic cleaner, because it can shatter them.

That's interesting. Alexandrite, even if lab-grown is still an 8.5 on the Mohs scale, so it should be pretty up there as far as stone hardness. As long as the stone isn't treated in any way, like for color, it should still be safe in an ultrasonic cleaner.

My jeweler who is also a certified gemologist had sent me the GIA's info on it, too: https://www.gia.edu/alexandrite-care-cleaning
I've also read that there are other stones that are basically simulants of alexandrite which are not as strong (vanadium laced corundrum), and wouldn't be good in ultrasonic cleaners.

Sounds like you know what you're about! Our lady is also a gemologist too, but maybe she had a specific, unusual experience which has made her extra cautious or something!

It's better to be safe than sorry, honestly! It's possible stones may have fractures in them which makes them not good for ultrasonic cleaners, and it's always good to get a professional cleaning for occasional maintenance anyway. ✨
