Affordable Ideas for a Christmastime Mini-moon vs Mexico Resort?

Tori, on February 21, 2021 at 12:20 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 5

Hey brides! I need help coming up with an idea for an affordable mini-moon for December 19th-December 22nd this year. It has to be within the continental U.S, and I want it to have that cozy mountain feel, but it would help us save on flights if it was somewhat closer to Texas. We are not huge outdoors people, but we love Christmas lights, historic downtowns, and private hot tubs/jacuzzies, lol!

Right now, our top choice is Big Canoe, Georgia. We found a couple of little cabins overlooking the lake on AirBnb, but I want to explore other options.

Do any of you know of any winter-y lodges or resorts or anything like that? Even better if you have personal experience!

OR am I being totally nuts about the winter mini-moon thing and should I take advantage and fly to Mexico for a few days and stay at an all inclusive resort? My fiance and I live in South Texas, and if we cross the border by foot (something I've done dozens of times) and fly out of a border city in Mexico, we could get a few nights at an all inclusive resort including the flight for around $1200 for both of us. But is it really going to feel like Christmas in Los Cabos, lol? Will I care? Will I have FOMO? (My 2 and 4 year old will be staying behind with grandma).

Help!

Take a look at Lake Tahoe - if you like snow. You can fly into Reno, and then take a shuttle into South Lake Tahoe, which is the biggest town in the area. There’s a little village that’s always beautiful during Christmas time. We got married at The Landing Resort & Spa and it’s beautiful, just expensive and not private hot tub. There’s a hot tub but for the whole resort.
Also look into Truckee, which is in the area but not on Lake Tahoe, but it’s super charming and historic.
It will be a flight from Texas and the area is expensive but it’s super beautiful.

I live Albequerque New Mexico. The only place for Christmas outside of New England and NY, or Colorado, in the States. $150-$250 airfare from Hobby. The mountains are beautiful. Taos and SantaFe are pricey. I like Albequerque, at least as home base.

Go to a ski resort! That would be my first choice. A cabin in Aspen, CO, or Park City, UT maybe
