Affordable Honeymoon in Hawaii

Shannon, on June 12, 2012 at 6:14 PM Posted in Honeymoon 1 24

Have you gone? What do you suggest? I read somewhere that Oahu was the most affordable. We want a good mix of outdoor adventure, lounge time, great food and nightlife. We really want our hotel to be ON the beach.

I've never been to Hawaii, but I've always heard it's expensive. Have you talked to a travel agent? Someone who has works in the Hawaiian travel business might know of good places to save some money.

We are going to Maui and spent about 3500 on the trip. I don't know what your cost is. We ended up going through a travel agent.

Hawaii is expensive no matter where you go. I grew up on Kauai, and went back for my honeymoon.

But if you want any sort of night life, you definitely want to go to Oahu.. they have much more to offer there.

Kauai is beautiful, but it's the island you go to if you mainly want to relax on the beach

I just got back from living in Hawaii for four months, and there is nothing cheap about it. Perhaps you could find some good deals, but everything is just expensive, especially in the touristy areas

Kauai is my favorite. I also recommend renting a condo or house instead of a standard hotel. You'll have a kitchen so you won't need to eat out every meal. It really adds up there. We also get our own alcohol and bring drinks down to the pool in sippy cups instead of wasting money at the bar. There are ways to save, but you have to plan it out a bit.

You'll also need to rent a car.

Hawaii vacation = $$$$ But it's totally worth it!

Smiley sad this doesn't sound too promising. we've never been out of the US proper and still dont have passports (i know, we're ridiculous). we wanted to go somewhere we KNOW we wont be springing for when/if we have kids (which will be soon after the wedding if we do).

do you think it's possible to do a week there for 3500-4k total? we're flying from philadelphia in early October...

Contact a couple of travel agents. We managed to get quite a few upgrades AND a lower price through an agent than anything I could find online.

Shannon, if you're in Philadelphia, have you considered the US Virgin Islands? They don't require a passport, and the flight and stuff might be cheaper since you're already in the Eastern US?

We got a great deal through Costco and we will be there a few weeks after you, but we are going to Maui. $2600, included OV room, daily breakfast, convertible car, luau, $200 resort credit, dinner cruise and two for one couples massage, for 7 nights.

Now that didn't include air because we will be marrying the week before on the South side and will already be there.

My Dad just told me that two airlines, one Southwest (forgot the other) will start flying there this fall so you may be able to get some good deals.

The flights are going to be the big expense. We found plenty of places to stay (big island) right on the beach for under $150 a night. The place we stayed was a condo complete with a kitchen, so we could cook and not have to eat out all week.

Honolulu is more expensive to stay/eat/do stuff, but the flights are usually a little cheaper.

We stayed at Hotel Renew right off Waikiki. It's just a block from the beach and we had an ocean view room. We didn't need to rent a car, there a buses at the airport that will take you to your hotel and all the tourist things pick you up at your hotel as well. We stayed for a week and spent $6,000. We did at least one thing everyday though (hike, surfing, helicopter ride, para sailing, etc.) it was a huge splurge for us. It was a blast though...

We actually just booked our honeymoon thru Orbitz yesterday, for 8 days on The Big Island with airfare and rental car total it was $2800 (including all taxes and fees). And it's also a condo with a washer dryer and full kitchen so we plan to save some money by eating in for at least breakfast everyday.

Hmm so maybe condos are the way to go.

jessica - we did think of the us virgins and PR, but it will be the tail end of hurricane season so we are a little afraid of that.

My fiancé and I are getting married in Maui in March next year, and I just booked our travel arrangements and accommodations through a travel agent. It saved me a ton on money, as opposed to booking through Travelocity or another online travel site. She was also able to get me a nicer hotel room at a cheaper rate than what I had originally planned to get through Travelocity, where you don't really know what you are getting until you get there. I would highly recommend working with a travel agent. The woman I booked with is named Marie Glodt from Travel to Maui. She is phenomenal! Her website is: www.traveltomaui.net

I've dreamed of a Hawaiian honeymoon since I was a little girl. I think cuz I thought that's where Fantasy Island was. lol (dating myself) I love a good deal though and it must be all-inclusive. There are much better deals to be had than Hawaii can offer so we'll see.
