Advice? E-Rings/Swimming Pools

Jacqui, on June 23, 2017 at 2:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 36

I work at a daycare where we take the school-age kids to a pool twice a week in the summer.

Obviously I can't wear my engagement ring those days, but I hate having my finger naked- the symbol of the ring is really important to me.

I'm not married, so I'm not sure if a Qalo-style ring would be appropriate.

Does anyone have any suggestions on an alternative ring? Do you think it matters if it looks like a wedding band rather than E-Ring? Should I invest in a cheap sterling-silver ring for my pool days?

I wear my rings in the pool. Are you not supposed to?

@Macy I have had a ring slip off at the beach before, so I wouldn't personally wear mine in the pool or any body of water.

@Macy, some peoples rings are loose and might fall off in water.

You could buy a cheap costume piece to wear when you go to work (though I'm not sure the water won't make it turn green).

Honestly don't worry about it. Not putting on the ring doesn't make you less engaged.

FH understands I don't wear my ring when I'm working out, doing anything that could damage the ring, or going to court in a dangerous part of town.

Gotcha. Mine is insured so I don't even think twice about it. Haven't had any issues in the ocean either.

I just had a talk with my FH about this. We travel a lot so I thought about buying a ring from like charming Charlie's or JCPenny to replace it while we're on vacation. Even tho my ring is insured i rather not damage it or lose it.

Our jeweler told us we could wear our rings everywhere except the gym (because of lifting weights), while using cleaning products, and while at the beach or in the pool because it can come off (not because of chlorine).

@Macy - unless your rings are cemented to your finger, I wouldn't wear them in the water. Better to be safe than sorry.

eta: we did bring our rings on our honeymoon and kept them in the safe when we weren't swimming.

    I just don't wear anything.

Macy- I would never take my ring into the pool, let alone the ocean! Sure, you can replace it with insurance, but it's one of those things that can't ever REALLY be replaced, it's too sentimental.

I have a Qalo ring and I'm not married yet! I wear it when I work out and at work.

I'll take my chances. It survived a riptide in BVI. I'd be more likely to lose it by taking it off.

There's chlorine in tap water too - just FYI. I don't spend much time in pool water- it's gross. I do spend a ton of time in the ocean.

There is nothing inappropriate about wearing a Qalo style ring if you want something on your finger. I personally just don't wear it swimming but I definitely get that feeling of nakedness with it gone.

I bought an Enso ring as soon as we were engaged for days I didn't want to wear my e-ring. I figure my commitment level to DH was no different when we were dating, after he proposed, or even now that we're married. Either way, I'm taken!

I totally wear my qalo ring in place of my E ring when I don't want to get it dirty or risk losing it. When I work outside, exercise, ride horses, clean, go on vacation - I wear my qalo. I also have a piece of costume jewelry that I use from time to time.

I agree with you! I always take my ring off whenever I'm doing anything that might hurt it. It's a valuable little thing so why risk it? If you really like the symbol of what a ring means, I'd get a cheap replacement for whenever you're having your pool days!

I have a Qalo style ring that O wear to work. I got a pack of 7 off of Amazon for like $12, and it was totally worth it.

I would probably still wear it and put it in a locker while I was in the pool (assuming the place you're going to has lockers that can be locked). Not wearing a ring for a couple hours doesn't make you less engaged.

I don't see any problem getting a Qalo ring or another type of rubber ring to wear in the pool. I personally just don't wear mine if I'm getting into a body of water.

FH spent a LOT of time searching for my ring for me because he wanted to get me exactly what I wanted and it took him a while to find one that had the band I liked, the setting I liked, and excellent quality. That added to the fact of how much it cost - I would literally never wear it in the ocean or the pool, crazy!

I got an Enso ring from Amazon! I'm terrified to wear my ring to the pool, beach, or amusement park. I like having a ring there because it symbolism but also because I constantly check my finger for my ring and have mini heart attacks when it's not there (I feel my ring finger with my thumb and if I can't feel it my heart jumps). So the Enso is also for my peace of mind .

I just texted my jeweler and he said chlorine and salt water are okay. But maybe it has to do with the type of rings we have? My rings are 18K white gold, H's band is palladium. All of our rings have diamonds in them.
