Adult Flower Girl

Christina, on April 24, 2017 at 2:53 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 37

I'm looking for an alternate name for "Flower Girl" to make it more suitable for an adult woman. I'm having my cousin's daughter (age 5) as my flower girl, and I'm having her mother (age adult) officially walk with her since she'll probably want her to anyway and we have a close relationship.

**I'm just looking for alternate names to flower girl, I am not asking whether or not you like or agree with my idea. I've seen many chats where people get very opinionated about this topic.

What do you need the name for? Programs? I think flower girl escort works.

I have two "flower girls" who are 16. They're twins and have been like little sisters to me growing. They're basically junior bridesmaids, but we called them flower babes!

My flower girl who is my niece is less than 2 and she'll be going down by herself. If she doesn't do it right? Awesome. I hope the photographer gets a good pic and we will all have a laugh at her adorableness.

I like the suggestion of 'flower maiden' or 'flower escort'. No one knows the reason why the flower girl may have a rough time walking down the aisle and if this is how you want to handle it - great!

I've been to weddings where the flower girl/ring bearer refuse to go and then a parent will run out and somehow get them to do it with them. In this situation you have the 'what if' figured out.

What about making her mom the ring bearer, or do you already have one? Honestly, I'd be much happier handing an adult handle the rings! If that doesn't work, I think "flower girls" or "flower ladies" if fine.

Really though, you might not need to give her a title. The mom of one of our ring bearers ended up walking him down the aisle and people got it. Kids are unpredictable sometimes!

We have a very good relationship, but she's older than my bridesmaids, so I want to give her a different title. We've spoken and she would be more comfortable in this position. I think we'll call them flower ladies. It's not that she can't walk alone, I want them to walk together.

She's walking with her daughter because I want her to, not because her daughter needs her to. I want to give her a title.

I am very tired, as I'm sure many brides are, of everyone (mothers, sisters, WeddingWire "advice" boards) what I can and cannot do at my own wedding. This is how it's happening at my wedding, you don't need to do it this way at yours. Can I please have some positive feedback/creative ideas about what to call and adult flower girl?

"Mother of the flower girl" if you're putting her in the programs.

Honestly, I don't understand why she needs a title though.

Christina, I know you're new here, but stick around and you'll learn that you can't dictate the replies you get. We tell it like it is here and most brides appreciate it because we keep brides from making dreadful mistakes with their weddings. You'd be amazed at how many brides come here and say crazy things like "I want to surprise my guests with an escape room wedding, a cash bar, and pot luck menu." And then they ask something absurd like what the wedding colors should be and shout at us for telling them what a horrible idea the wedding is. Granted, no one thinks your idea is like that, but when we offer our opinion instead of blindly responding to only what was asked, that's why.

Adult flower girls are referred to as Bridesmaids.
