Acrylic Invitations

We are toggling back and forth on sending acrylic invitations instead of traditional card stock. The cost is not bad at all. We love the look. Thoughts? This is a sample of course 😂Acrylic Invitations 1

I will share my experience with a Wedding I was recently the MOH in. The couple used acrylic invitations. They were beautiful. But, to be completely honest, they were way more trouble than they were worth. First of all, do not order acrylic invitations from one of those budget sites. If they are way cheaper than they are most other places, trust me there is a reason for it! They are lesser quality, they are thinner, they smudge like crazy with fingerprints, and they crack in the mail! That being said, even the more expensive quality acrylic invites have their issues. They still run the risk of cracking in the mail, and acrylic invites have sharp corners, which means they tear through envelopes. The only way to safely mail them is to order those thin invitation boxes, which means more money spent on the boxes and a lot more money spent on postage. The only other option is to use padded envelopes, but those tend to come off as cheap, tacky, low-rent for a wedding (especially if you are using acrylic invitations, as everybody knows those are more money and tend to be seen as more fancy and modern, which is setting the tone for your wedding to also be fancy, upscale and modern, so a cheap looking padded envelope is not what you are going to want to use). Also, if you are environmentally conscious, these invitations are terrible. They are not eco-friendly at all.

The breaking or cracking was one of our concerns as well. The corners although they look pointed are actually rounded to not tear the envelopes. That part was a plus! The ink is raised print so they won’t smudge. The frosted is where we are leaning to avoid the fingerprints on them. Very good insight! Thank you. You’ve given us more to consider from a first hand point of view. Thanks! 🙏🏽

That is my fiancé’s opinion as well. It’s a “signature”and keepsake for guests to keep!

While they do look cool, I’d advise not counting on guests keeping those as a keepsake from your wedding. With the exception of parents/grandparents and siblings that are close, most guests will pitch invitations after the wedding is over. Keepsakes that guests will keep from your wedding will be favors that they can keep “using” like cups, magnets, koozies, cooking spoons, ice cream scoops, coffee mugs (those are example favors from weddings I’ve been to).

Definitely not saying that they aren’t pretty, but just don’t want you guys to be let down if you find guests did not keep them (I know of close friends that already pitched ours and I thought they were pretty 🥲).

We know the majority will not be kept with the exception of those in close family orbit.

Gorgeous!! We're not having a ceremony but those would be perfect as a wedding announcement. Thanks for sharing.

If all the handling and mailing issues appear adequately resolved, the invitations appear to match with the scale of the wedding being planned. It works all the better if the people who receive the invitations will be inclined to keep them. Usually though, non-family invitees would not keep the invitations afterwards.

You’re welcome :-) My friend used them for her wedding, and found out after the fact just how terrible they were for the environment – both the material itself, and the process of making it! (Plus they were super expensive to mail). She wishes she had never used them. I had actually contemplated using them for our wedding, until I found out all the downsides to them.

My concern wold be the environmental impact. People usually don't keep that sort of thing, unless it's the parents or the couple themselves, I would think.

I agree with this. Acrylic invitations are beautiful, but are not recyclable or reusable.
