Acne prone brides

Monica, on August 31, 2021 at 4:28 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 16
For those that are acne prone what are you guys planning to do to try to stay acne free on the big day? My acne isn’t terrible because I did a round of Accutane a few years ago but I’m still not acne free I will have clear skin for a few days and then goes back to small breakouts.

Any suggestions?

I get bad hormonal breakouts once or twice a month. I've been subscribing to Curology for a few months. Still can't really tell if it's working because I keep running out like 2 weeks before the next shipment comes. I've made it clear to my makeup artist that hiding blemishes is my #1 goal and will re-iterate that to them when I do my trial. May also have to tell the photographer to edit them out since she didn't seem to do that for our engagement photos.

My OBGYN prescribed me a medication called spironolactone. It's great if you have hormonal acne. I used to have pretty severe facial and body acne and it cleared up and has stayed clear for a few years now. The drawback is that you have to work up to a dosage that works for you (I take 50mg/day), so you won't be able to make use of this in time for October. But it might be worth talking to your doctor if you have consistent hormonal acne.

If your acne tends to get worse around a certain time of the menstrual cycle (typically mid-cycle or just before/during the period), and isn't really improved by acne products like benzoyl peroxide, it's probably hormonal.

I struggle with this myself as well! I typically do a face mask once a week and use gentle face wash. Also, I constantly keep face wipes in my gym bag when ai get really sweaty. Not exactly wedding related but some tricks I learned.

I really struggle with acne too. I don’t get it badly anymore but still get a big cystic spot every once in a while. I put a lot of effort to find products that work for me. I found I was using ingredients that were way too harsh and just making the situation worse. The trouble is that you don’t have much time to be messing around with different products, especially actives where you can have skin purging. I found that the most helpful things for me were: switching to a low ph cleanser like CosRX good morning cleanser or Bioderma sensibio cleanser, I started using CosRX blackhead power liquid which made a huge difference but I did have a couple weeks of bad purging, using retinol to try to reduce any acne scarring and using the three step moisture method to make sure I’m properly hydrating. I know this is a lot but I hope it helps!

Ranavat has changed my life!! I've struggled with all sorts of acne and redness and Ranavat skincare changed all that for me. I LOVE my skin now and couldn't be happier. If all else fails, talk to your doctor about getting on a low dose of doxycycline for acne a month before your wedding. Just make sure you hydrate and use a backup form of birth control! I did this last year before a special event and my skin was flawless. Not a long term solution, but helpful for something like this.

Not a lot. It cleared up breakups I had, smoothed out my skin, and prevented new breakouts from popping up. If it's a low dose it's usually safe, but it's something you need to discuss with your provider. I think I was on 20mg of doxy for acne and after about 2 weeks my skin was clear.

You're welcome! Take it with food also since it may cause upset stomach. Don't forget to clean your makeup brushes weekly! Smiley smile

I really recommend Glossier’s exfoliating toner (in the pink bottle) and a benzoyl peroxide/retinol regimen!! That glossier stuff SAVED. MY. FACE. (I have pretty oily/combination skin) but it was the last step, that final thing I needed that really cleared EVERYTHING up!

Dermal MD Acne Face Serum is a potent plant-based potion that fights acne, is gentle on the skin, reduces inflammation and helps build and strengthen your skin barrier. I really love this serum💯
