a Disney World honeymoon: yay or nay?

Sunloved, on January 19, 2023 at 7:18 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 7
Hi all! My fiancé and I are having a beach wedding (an all-inclusive package) in Cocoa Beach. It’s only an hour away from Orlando which of course gave me the idea of honeymooning at Disney. Neither of us have been so it’ll be a special experience for sure.

Considering that I’ve never been to Disney, I’m unsure if this is a good honeymoon spot. I heard that there are “Just Married” buttons that can give us discounts, which is great for sure Smiley xd
Did anyone have their honeymoon there or know anyone who has? For those who have been to Disney, can you imagine it being a nice spot for newlyweds to vacay?

We Disneymooned! It was awesome Smiley smile (We're also huge disneyphiles, so it made sense for us)

We stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter, which is a "moderate" resort on Disney's pricing tiers. It's the smallest of the moderates, so it doesn't have a table service restaurant, but it's a short boat ride to Disney Springs. We did 7 nights/8 days and got parkhopper tickets (note: right now you can't park hop before 2:00).

Be sure to pick up your buttons - even if you don't get any "magic" everyone will congratulate you, which is super fun. I also recommend ear hats for at least on day - but beware, the traditional felt ones are *hot* and give weird tan lines on your forehead lol.

You can make dining reservations 60 days ahead. We did: Le Cellier, Cinderella's Royal Table, San Angel Inn Restaurante, Yak and Yeti, Flying Fish, 50s Prime Time Diner, and Hollywood Brown Derby. We would not have done two table service on our HS day, but we were gifted the Fantasmic dining package and we really wanted to go to 50s, so we ended up with both 50s and HBD on the same day - holy crap we were *stuffed*.

You have to add your honeymoon to the reservation over the phone - and separately for dining and hotel/ticket - no idea why.

Don't count on getting magic from cast members - we saw a couple that was obviously expecting it, and they got nothing (from a waiter who had given us magic, so it must have been the expectation).

As far as magic from cast members we received: a free stuffed pretzel from Auntie Gravities, a free churro (from a cart), free half glasses of champagne and dessert at Le Cellier, a half size of the signature dessert (since neither of us ordered it lol) and champagne at Flying Fish, champagne at HBD, audience interaction at Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor, a table for lunch to Be Our Guest (we didn't have a reservation and they were sending people away, telling them 2/3 o'clock, and we got sent in), and our "cousin" (the waiter) at 50s was all "well why wasn't I invited to the wedding," "mom said it was beautiful," he even asked another table if they had been invited lol (the idea is you're eating at home in the 1950s). I've also gotten a free mickey ice cream bar for celebrating my mom's birthday (at a cart) and H got a dessert at Yachtsman for his birthday.

Highly recommend and always happy to answer any questions.

It was definitely incredible Smiley smile

Also - you'll be there during EPCOT's Flower and Garden festival, so there'll be food booths and topiaries and other stuff at EPCOT.

If you're going to make reservations, be sure to take advantage of their special offer (they're offering certain percentages off their hotels for the spring right now - I know because we're planning for May and I was just added the offer to our existing reservation)

We did our mini moon at WDW. We enjoyed it. We lounged in the hot tub, watched movies, ate yummy food, character breakfast, and shopped. It was nice and relaxing (we didn’t do any parks ).
Buttons do not get you any discounts. They will get you lots of “congratulations!” And you may get some pixidust from cast members. We got Champaign and dessert at dinner. But, don’t expect it. Also, they don’t give out just married ones any more. They do happily ever after. I found some just married ones on eBay and we wore those.
Deluxe resorts will give a more indulgent vibe. Be sure to make dinning reservations before hand. Don’t plan on winging it day of or you might be eating quick service meals. Also park reservations. Look into couples massages. Don’t forget time to relax and enjoy the just married bubble.

Start here for information on EVERYTHING Disney..... all ears.

We are Annual Pass Holders and go to WDW a ton. Unfortunately the days of "just winging it" are way way gone, so the amount of planning you do will equal the amount of fun you have. As previous posters noted, you NEED reservations for any decent sit-down restaurant, and you need a reservation to go IN to the park = at 2:00 you can "hop" to another park without your reservation.

We are mini-mooning this May and I can't wait.
