911! Suit Help!

Ana, on May 5, 2021 at 12:07 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

Ok folx, here's the tea: Suit rentals are stressing me out. We originally planned on Generation Tux, but the delivery occurs two weeks prior which freaked me out. I kept thinking to myself, "that's not nought time", "what if something doesn't fit and they need to exchange?", etc. So, I made the executive decision with the BM & FH that we would use Men's Warehouse instead. Wow. Talk about LIMITED and dated styles. And suit are only ready TWO DAYS prior to the wedding. Ugh!

Bottom line: I NEED HELP. What worked for you? Where did you rent from? Why do people think black shoes go with a blue suit when clearly brown is the better choice??

Thanks y'all Smiley heart

We went with gray tuxes from Men's Warehouse. The 2 day tinelime worked. A few of the guys had to send their back cuz they didn't fit right or there was a stain (gross), but everyone had everything they needed the day of. Also yeah, yikes. Black shoes don't really go with navy suits.

Black shoes are more formal and are usually recommended for weddings. They go great with a navy suit.

We used Men's Warehouse for tux rentals and the whole process was super easy and went very well.

We also used Mens Warehouse; the process was great and very easy. Black & Navy is a great combo, as is Brown & Navy. It's personal preference - neither is outright wrong.

Ha, black shoes with a blue tux. I don't get it. Have you seen the brown shoes with black soles? What are designers thinking!

Our guys purchased suits from Indochino. My husband was best man in a wedding that had rentals from Men's Warehouse that were picked up just two days prior. He got measured at Men's Warehouse and his tux fit fine.

Generation Tux sounds like a good deal. Is the expectation that groomsmen get measured at a store (by a pro) or do their own measurements? If they go in to get measured, the chances of things going wrong is pretty slim, and two weeks is AMPLE lead time for a new suit to be shipped if needed. Rentals don't get custom fit the way bridesmaids dress do so lead time is much shorter. My husband got measured for his tux maybe a month before the wedding, picked everything up a couple days prior, and was good to go!

Wait, is it a tuxedo or a suit? Black shoes are the only "correct" option with a tuxedo.

Not sure if you're looking for other options but I was VERY impressed by Jos A Banks. Suits came in quickly, lots of options, and reasonable prices.

You all are amazing for coming here with your support - I just cannot tell you how much I appreciate it.

    - Blue suits, no tuxes.

    - Brown shoes feel brighter, especially for the summer time.

    - FH is very fond of MW. I had hesitations because of the location he went to - they rented him totally the wrong style and wrong color and informed him that they don't do suit rentals, tuxes only and black shoes are the only option. We're bicoastal right now, so I would have gone with him if I could have.

    - I think we will do the blue Calvin Klein suits, have GMs purchase brown shoes & belts, and we are doing matching ties to the bridesmaids dresses in Dusty Blue from Birdy Grey.

Still contemplating how to make FH stand out. I purchased him a satin tie and pocket square, I think it'll work Smiley smile

We used Men's Warehouse and it was a HUGE mistake. My brother and dad drove an hour to get their tuxes on the Wednesday before our wedding (we got married on a Saturday) and they were told it was fine to pick them up on Wednesday, but when they got to the store they were told the truck with the tuxes was in a car accident and they had no idea when the truck would arrive at the store. The salesperson was incredibly rude to my brother and dad about the entire situation and claimed even if the tuxes were there and if they wouldn't have fit that it was too late to change sizes of any of the items anyways. My brother and dad drove back home without the tuxes and couldn't get them until the day before the wedding. My dad's pants were way too big because he lost weight due to medicine he was taking at the time. They told him they couldn't exchange his pants for a different size so he had to use safety pins to keep them up. They also didn't order the right size shirt for my brother because they thought his measurements were wrong so it didn't fit, but thankfully they had a shirt in stock that would fit. It made no sense that they could exchange my brother's shirt, but not my dad's pants. My husband went to a different location and his shirt didn't fit either so they had to change sizes. The morning of the wedding my brother realized they didn't give him his pocket square so one of my husband's friends (non-groomsman) took one of the groomsmen's pockets squares and ran to the closest Men's Warehouse for us and got a pocket square for my brother. Our usher and ring bearer also didn't receive their pocket squares, but we didn't realize it until it was too late.

We did GenTux, and I thought everyone looked great. Even though you get it a week or two before the wedding, if you need something replaced, it really does get there on time (my DH's jacket and both of our dad's suits were replaced as we ended up selecting a different color for the dads). And my DH got to keep his suit!

Some suggestions to make FH stand out when he and the groomsmen are wearing the same suit:

    1) Put FH in 3-piece suit, groomsmen in 2-piece (we went this route, my hubby was the only one with a vest).

    2) Have a slightly different tie and/or pocket square for FH (different fabric, slight variation on color, or different pattern).

    3) Have slightly different boutonnieres. Maybe FH's is a bit larger, has more greenery (or is the only one with a flower while the groomsmen all have just greenery) or is a different color. Or maybe FH gets one and the groomsmen don't.

We went to Men's Warehouse but didn't love the options there, and my husband wanted a new suit anyway, so he and the groomsmen all opted to buy a decent suit from Indochino that they would have forever, instead of renting something they'd only wear once for half the price. They're all happy with their suits (my husband's jacket does need additional tailoring, but the rest looks great).

One perk of renting from Men's Warehouse is that it's probably the most popular chain suit/tux rental option, which can be helpful if you have groomsmen from all over the country. Chances are everyone will live within driving distance of one and can get measured/fitted regardless of whether they are local to you or not. I have no experience with Generation Tux.

We went to MW. H wore a bow tie and all the GM wore regular ties (so H stood out some) - we went with grey suits, white shirts, black ties, and teal pocket squares (to match the BMs - but we bought them elsewhere). They definitely rent suits, not just tuxes, so it sounds like your FH spoke with someone who was new and didn't know. I don't think they offered brown shoes, but we asked the GM to wear black dress shoes that they already owned if they preferred (only one rented) because we wanted their feet to be comfy.

Blue suits with brown shoes are going to look fantastic for summer!
