29 guests looking to do reception later

Rosilus, on January 29, 2021 at 2:51 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

Hello all I've gotten some bad news. I am a May 15, 2021 bride Im getting married in NJ (my home state). This may be a little too early to vent but I kinda feel the need to. My fiance and I are paying for our wedding ourselves. He just got laid off his job today. I'm a little worried that we will not be able to make the reception as anticipated. However all the things that are important to us is already paid for. Photography. videography, limo, hotel for us. We were thinking just going with a nice restaurant at this point. I'm a little disappointment because dj (music) would definitely work however the COVID restrictions in NJ does not allow dancing at this time. Doesn't know if that will change in the future but we are coming up to the 90 day mark in about 2 1/2 weeks. His family will be flying in and mine will be coming but most guests anticipate reception and party. Also besides all these we have our usual bills to pay. So just a little concerned at this point which direction i should take. I guess its safe to use COVID as a safe way to postpone the celebration till later in the year. Yes or No. Don't know how long it will be for him to get employment. Although with my income alone all the necessary things will be taken care of. Doesnt leave to much wiggle room for reception planning for 20 guest not including us.

I think this just might be your blessing in disguise. I’d seriously start considering going with your plan to reschedule so you can have the wedding of your dreams.

I agree with the PP. I would suggest looking at dates next year, and possibly still doing a very small ceremony this year if your original date is important to you. Best of luck with planning and moving forward. It’s such a difficult time.

I would reschedule your reception for next year. With the new financial strain, and with Covid, I think that will be your best option.

You need to host something after the ceremony. You have people flying in and you're thinking about not hosting them at all?

I will host something but its not gonna be a huge reception. Maybe a dinner and a a thank you favor bag to go.

That's fine; that's all that's required (food and drink appropriate to the time of day).
