2 Bridal Showers

Aly, on November 15, 2023 at 10:00 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 3
My mom is throwing a bridal shower mainly for her extended family in my hometown but my FMIL has offered to throw one on the east coast which is closer to more of my relatives and friends.
My question is: some of my cousins from my mom’s side that are scattered across the east coast aren’t able to make it to her shower. Should I invite them to the other shower or would sending 2 bridal shower invites be inappropriate?
We’re not very close personally but one sent me gifts for the shower even though she was unable to make it so I thought it’d be nice to include her in the other one if possible (obviously with a PS saying she doesn’t need to send another gift!)

I don’t know the formal etiquette answer, but it seems like it would be a nice gesture to invite family and friends on the East coast to the closer shower given by your FMIL. Adding a note about not wanting another gift should clear any misunderstandings that the invite is simply a request for more gifts. Hope it works out well for you!

The shower invitations should come from the person hosting, so either way it won't look like it's you inviting people twice. It would be two invitations, each from someone different. The invited person can decide how they want to manage it.

A shower is for physical gifts only so the note to not bring one is unnecessary. It’s very common for a bride to have multiple showers due to people in various locations. But the bride doesn’t have any part in planning beyond providing a list of guests who are local to the shower who are invited to the wedding.
