Aspen Honeymoon

While some couples flee to the sea, others prefer to put on their skis and race down a mountain for their honeymoon. If you’re part of the latter crew, there’s nothing quite as romantic and luxurious than an Aspen honeymoon in picturesque Colorado. This town is known for fresh, unparalleled powder, the fanciest-of-fancy apres ski traditions, and it’s budding culinary scene. What makes this small, yet vibrant town, unique is that it offers the best of both worlds: opportunities to escape the cold and snuggle by a personal fireplace in a private chalet—or mix-and-mingle with some of the country’s (and world’s) elite.

Here, your ultimate checklist to creating a romantic and cozy Aspen honeymoon adventure to celebrate the start of your marriage:

When to Go

The good news about Aspen is it’s truly a year-round destination. However, couples should think about planning their honeymoon around the type of weather they prefer or they imagine for this once-in-a-lifetime excursion. For snow bunnies who want to have run-after-run on repeat, prime time for fresh flakes runs from December to February. However, it’s important to note that because this is when conditions are the best for skiing and snowboarding, this is when Aspen is the busiest—and thus, the most expensive. If you’re open to spending a pretty penny and splurging on your trip, then this is definitely the season for it.

Another season that’s equally as fun is the summertime. After all, when those mountains don’t have snow on top of them, they’re still peaks to climb! From hiking and swimming to rock climbing and beyond, outdoor adventuring couples will appreciate the bright blue skies, sunny but not too hot temperatures, and the less pricey rates from May to August.

Truth be told though? Aspen will be an enjoyable experience no matter when you decide to book your trip. Fragrant and colorful flowers take over the hills in the spring, and the leaves cascade shades of orange and red in Autumn. The choice is yours!

Top Activities

  • First things first: go luxury for your Aspen honeymoon hotel. The St. Regis Aspen has impeccable suites with mountain views, and The Little Nell offers an equally elegant boutique experience.
  • Take One surefire way to have a marital tiff is attempting to teach your partner how to ski or snowboard. A better solution is to take adult group lessons, or hire a private instructor if your budget allows.
  • Sit at the bar. There’s no way around it: eating out in Aspen is pricey. But who wants to stay inside and cook for every single meal on your honeymoon? To make it more accessible for all, many restaurants offer a bar-only menu that’s slightly less expensive. Check out Ellina, Steakhouse 316, Cache Cache, L’Hostaria, Monarch and Jimmy’s.
  • Learn how to ski dance. For those who are masters of the mountain and started skiing when they learned to walk, Aspen has the opportunity to take it to the next level. Anna from Magic Wedding Dance can teach duos how to spin and twirl… all while wearing skis! She’ll also capture a video to show off to your friends and fam upon your return home.
  • Ride the gondola to the top of Aspen Mountain. Beginner skiers may be fearful of this peak since it doesn’t offer any newbie green runs—but it’s still worth a trip to the top to admire the 360 views on a sunny, blue-skied day.
  • Visit the Aspen Art Museum. With free admission and complimentary tours every Wednesday and Saturday, you can learn more about the genius that’s been created in this snow town over the years. For a day when you need a break from the cold, this is a no-brainer.
  • Have apres ski. You can’t leave your Aspen honeymoon without having an apres ski experience. Starting around 3 p.m. daily, many spots throughout town pop bottles of bubbly and get the party started. Some top recommendations include The Artisan, Hops Culture, Venga Venga, Limelight Lounge and Chair Nine.
  • Enjoy a snowcats dinner. For a special experience, consider booking a dinner high up into the mountains for a quiet, secluded evening. Only those who have a reservation can take the lifts up, and once you arrive an executive chef prepares a curated dinner.
  • Have a spa day. Skiing is no joke—it requires a full body workout that often leaves you sore and exhausted. That’s why many people hop in a hot tub after their day in the powder to recover. Take it to another level by booking a massage for two at The St. Regis Aspen, Heaven on Earth or 02 Aspen.
  • Sleep in and order breakfast in bed. It is your honeymoon after all! Make sure to book at least a week-long trip, so you can enjoy ordering up eggs and coffee to your room to admire the view outside and stay snuggle up in bed. (Just don’t forget the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign!)
